Face yoga mistakes and when to stop

Avoid turning a gentle self-care routine into a test of intensity.

Do not confuse the timer with a hold

A step that lasts forty seconds is a window for a gentle movement and rest. It is not a command to contract your face continuously. Read the instruction before beginning. Make each repetition small enough that you can release fully rather than squeezing other areas of your face.

Avoid adding resistance on your own

Pressing harder, pulling the skin or using a device to load your jaw changes the activity. Those changes are not part of Pinko’s sequences. If you want a therapeutic exercise program for a specific condition, obtain individual instructions rather than adapting a general beauty routine.

Pause for symptoms

Pain, jaw locking, dizziness or worsening irritation are reasons to stop. Do not use the next session to test whether you can push past the same symptom. Persistent jaw difficulties should be assessed by an appropriate clinician. A painless click alone is not the same as painful or restricted movement, as NIDCR explains.

Protect the skin barrier

Do not practise a rubbing or tool-based step on irritated or broken skin. A gentle facial movement routine does not require scrubbing first. Keep your ordinary skin care simple and follow the aftercare you were given after a procedure. A timer cannot decide when healing is complete.
